Diversity, Equity & Inclusion in Deep-sea Science
Tuesday, July 21, 2020
Oceanography faces a significant challenge in addressing the lack of diversity among its ranks. This workshop seeks to initiate a discussion among deep sea scientists to recognize the scope of this challenge and evaluate potential actions that we may take to begin addressing issues of systemic racism. We hope to identify actions and programs that could be undertaken, have been successful, or have not been successful at the levels of our own labs and research expeditions, within our institutions (e.g., hiring/promotion practices), within our outreach efforts, and at the level of sponsor agencies and organizations. We look forward to learning from our peers and colleagues and beginning to instigate productive change in our community.
Please register for one of the two virtual workshops-and don't forget to sign up for the workshop Slack channel.
